We really wanted to record these six great trios, which reveal the evolution of the composer's genius and represent for us a cycle, a story.

Across the three opuses, we sense both stylistic and psychological development: the Haydn-inspired Viennese classicism of Op. 1 is transformed by Op. 70 into a denser writing style heralding Romanticism.

The young Beethoven of the first opus gives way in the following ones to a more mature man, with more complex emotions, expressing the struggles and dreams of the human soul. But the modernity, daring and innovation that define Beethoven's music are already present in Op. 1. What novelties, deconstructions, shocks and, above all, humor for the classical era! The young Beethoven plays with codes, expressing love, anger, innocence, hope...

With Op. 70, Beethoven considerably expands the sonic and emotional universe of the trios. The orchestral writing is reminiscent of Beethoven's contemporary Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. Beethoven's style heralds Romanticism, but the second movement of Op. 70 No. 1, with its orchestral colors and Mephistophelean atmosphere, remains unclassifiable and already surpasses it.

Finally, "L'Archiduc", with its symphonic dimension, is the crowning achievement of the piano trio genre. This hymn to nature and love has an obvious humanistic scope, and resonates as a grandiose completion to the trio cycle. As we close this last page, we have the sensation of having traveled the world.

This triple album was recorded with Clémence de Forceville, the trio's violinist until May 2021.
